I’m a poet, a teacher and a riddler. I’ve been writing and telling riddles for years. I love them because they appeal to everyone. This week for example I’ve told riddles to a class of 8 year-olds, a roomful of seniors in a community center and to several nursing aides as I waited for a colonoscopy in a local hospital. They captivated all three audiences. In our niche-bound culture riddles are one of the very few forms that EVERYONE LIKES.
They’ve been around for centuries, and they’re part of most oral traditions.
